Learn how to make your very own linocut print in this workshop for complete beginners!
I'm very much a believer with linocut that if you can imagine it, you can carve it.
I'm on a little mission to help others enjoy this brilliant medium. It's so immersive and uses all your senses; you have the smell of the ink, the feel of the tools in your hand and the excitement of pulling your first print and inking your first block.
In my workshop you’ll learn step-by-step how to make a simple A5 black and white linocut print, the start of your linocut journey.
You’ll begin by drawing your own design or using one of the designs provided and transferring it to a linocut block. As a group we’ll go through the stages of carving, inking and printing your block either by hand or using a small press. There will be a variety of papers available for use and participants will leave the workshop with their carved lino block and their printed design.
All tools and materials are provided. The workshop is very hands-on, with everything explained in demonstrations as you go along, in a supportive and friendly atmosphere.
What do I need to bring to the workshop?
An apron is advised to protect clothes from ink
A kettle and tea and coffee are available but I ask you to please bring your own mug or flask
A packed lunch/food if you require it (lunch/dinner are not provided)
The workshop is located at Studio 20 in Norwich. The full address is 20 Wensum Street, Norwich, Norfolk, NR3 1HY. Monastery car park is located close to the Studio. There are cheaper alternative car parks a little further away from the venue at Colegate car park and St. Saviours Lane car park.
Participants will be spread out in the studio to allow for social distancing. This workshop is not suitable for children.
No previous experience is necessary, this is a workshop for the complete linocut beginner.
Friendly and patient teaching by a linocut printmaker with small class sizes of up to six people.
I will have several examples of my own linocut prints as well as several reference books on linocut printing to look at. Cancellation and refund is allowed if given 2 weeks notice. Intermediate linocut printmaking courses and Christmas card workshops will be announced soon!
